The terms on which this site and the public registry may be used. Effective September 20, 2026.
The registry
The public registry may be searched by anyone, free of charge, one credential at a time, for the purpose of confirming a specific person's credential status. Automated querying, scraping, bulk extraction, and republication of registry data as a list or database are not permitted. A registry result may be quoted to the person who asked you to verify the credential and kept in your own records.
The content outline and sample items
The content outline, task statements and reference list may be reproduced by preparation providers, employers and candidates for the purpose of preparing for or describing the examination, with attribution to CIFPO and the version number. Sample items may be reproduced in the same way. Live examination items are confidential and are not licensed for any use.
The credential and the marks
"CFPO", "Certified in Federal Payer Operations" and "CIFPO" may be used only by current holders to describe their own credential, by employers to describe a role, and by anyone to refer accurately to the credential or the organization. Describing CFPO as a license, a government requirement or an accreditation, or presenting a credential one does not hold, is prohibited and is treated under the code of ethics where the person is a holder.
Forms
Information submitted through this site's forms must be true. Submitting a form as another person, or submitting patient information, is prohibited.
No professional advice
This site describes CIFPO's own policies and the published rules of federal programs as CIFPO understands them for examination purposes. It is not legal, billing or compliance advice for any specific claim, and the programs' own published rules govern.
Liability
CIFPO provides this site and the registry as they are. CIFPO is not liable for a decision made in reliance on a registry result that was accurate when returned, or for the availability of the site at any particular time.
Changes
Changes to these terms are announced in a bulletin before they take effect. Questions: board@cifpo.org.
